Services
At Synergy Sports Medicine, we provide a broad range of services
giving the active person access to up to date assessment and management
of their sporting injury. When we combine this with the extensive
range of expertise available from practitioners in the South West,
we offer a quality of care alternative equal to Perth.
Assessment/Diagnosis
A thorough assessment forms the basis of an accurate diagnosis
of your complaint. Thorough history taking and examination is time
consuming but cannot be replaced if good outcomes are to be achieved.
We cannot provide this service without taking the appropriate time.
We always book a half hour appointment for all new injuries, chronic
injuries, second opinions and pain management assessments. Medico-legal
opinions require longer appointments.
Following this assessment, the diagnosis may be obvious or very
likely. On many occasions treatment can be initiated straight away.
On other occasions, special tests will be required to make a firm
diagnosis or exclude serious diagnoses.
Investigation
The utilisation of pathology testing and various radiology imaging
techniques form the basis of sports medicine tests. We will often
require X-ray, ultrasound, bone scanning, CT scanning or MRI scanning
to make a firm diagnosis. It is a credit to the region that such
imaging is all available in the South West.
Diagnostic Ultrasound
We are very pleased to be able to provide diagnostic ultrasound services in the rooms. Dr White has been involved in post graduate training in the use of ultrasound in the diagnosis of musculoskeletal conditions.
The availability of this allows for a more accurate and rapid confirmation of your diagnosis so that treatment can be initiated in a timely manner.
The ultrasound also allows more accuracy in the placement of injections. This should improve the outcome from such injections.
Compartment Pressure Testing
We are very pleased to be able to provide this specialised service.
This test measures the pressure inside individual muscles and is
used to diagnose or exclude compartment syndromes. We provide the
only pressure testing service outside of Perth. More

Management
We provide advice and treatment for your injury or problem. We
may be able to treat your problem completely from in house or may
refer you to other practitioners so that comprehensive treatment
is provided to you.
The provision of a management plan and involvement of a team approach
to management underpins the essence of the SYNERGY concept.
The outcome for the individual will be far greater if there is a
team approach than from an individual alone.
Specific treatments
Injection therapies are often required in
the treatment of sports injuries. These injections may be used to
help make a diagnosis but are also used in therapy. Cortisone or
steroid injections are often used to settle down resistant inflammation.
When used properly and expertly, these pose very little if any risk.
We are very experienced in steroid injections of many joints, bursae
and tendon sheaths. Referral for ultrasound or x-ray guided injection
may be required for difficult areas or where risks exist if the
injection is not accurately placed such as the spine. More

Steroid iontophoresis is the use of a small
electrical current to move cortisone through the skin into an inflamed
area. This is very useful if you want to avoid an injection or where
an injection may be dangerous. More

Medical assessment
We are very pleased to accept people for second opinions about
musculoskeletal as well as general practice type problems. We are
more than happy to make the assessment and forward a report back
to your usual doctor.
The combination of sports medicine and general practice places
us well to be able to manage the many medical problems that also
confront athletes such as asthma, tiredness, anaemia, iron deficiency,
menstrual problems, pregnancy etc.
We can also provide assessments related to management of low back
pain and other long term problems.
